- Hearing impairments are more common in men than in women.
- Hearing loss can increase the risk for depression in adults, especially in 18 to 69-year-olds.

The study showed people with untreated hearing loss lose as much as $30,000 in annual income, depending on the degree of the loss, and that those who use hearing aids, reduced the risk of income loss by 90 to 100 percent for mild loss and 65 to 77 percent with severe to moderate loss.
